Ola match balls debut in CAF Competitions
For the first time in CAF competitions, Ola match balls are set to grace the finals of the Confederations Cup and Champions League, as Egypt and Tunisia host these prestigious events.
Crafted in collaboration with PUMA, the Ola match balls feature a striking design with vibrant colors and intricate patterns adorning a white leather canvas.
According to an official press release from CAF, the name “OLA” draws inspiration from both Yoruba and Arabic languages. In Yoruba, “OLA” conveys meanings of “wealth,” “honour,” and “respect,” while in Arabic, it signifies “rise” and “success.” This choice reflects the dynamic and energetic spirit of African football.
Yoruba, one of the continent’s oldest languages, traces its roots back to the 4th century B.C. It boasts over 45 million speakers across Nigeria, Benin, Togo, as well as parts of Gambia and Ivory Coast.
Football enthusiasts in Tunis will have the opportunity to witness the Ola match balls in action during the first leg of the Champions League Final between Espérance Sportive de Tunis and Al Ahly. Meanwhile, fans at the Cairo International Stadium will experience the Ola’s presence during the second leg of the Confederation Cup Final between Zamalek and RS Berkane.
As these iconic match balls make their debut on the grandest stage of African football, they symbolize the continent’s rich cultural heritage and the passion that fuels its footballing spirit.
