Olisa Ndah optimistic he will get another Super Eagles opportunity
Fit-again Nigeria and Orlando Pirates defender, Olisa Ndah is optimistic he will get another Super Eagles opportunity to prove his worth.
This and his thoughts about the Super Eagles start to the World Cup qualifying and upcoming AFCON chance the South Africa based defender shared.
Olisa Ndah has shaken off injury concerns that led to his withdrawal from the Super Eagles squad for the International friendly game vs Portugal in 2022.
Ndah was sidelined for months but has now regained full fitness and last played for Pirates in their 0-1 win over Kaizer Chiefs in the South African top-flight on November 11.
In their opening 2026 World Cup qualification fixtures, the Super Eagles stuttered in 1-1 draws vs Lesotho and Zimbabwe to raise doubts over their chances of performing creditably well at the Africa Cup of Nations.
Despite not being part of recent Nigeria national team squad’s, the former Akwa United FC reliable center-back is backing the Eagles to return to winning ways and fly among the strong contenders for the AFCON title in Ivory Coast.
” These things can happen. “Sometimes things don’t always go as well for you, but I believe that the Eagles are certainly capable of returning to winning ways again, ” Ndah is quoted by PUNCH.
“I always fancied the Eagles to be one of the strong contenders for the forthcoming AFCON in Ivory Coast next year.”
” We have talents everywhere and I believe I will get my chance to prove my worth like I did before the last AFCON, ” the 25-year old said.
In 2022, Olisa Ndah was subject of transfer interest from Italian Serie A side Sassuolo.
The proposed bid was withdrawn following his injury in November 2022.
The defender pulled through the long lay-off and his back in action for Jose Riveiro tutored Orlando Pirates, his last two apperances yielding wins and clean sheets for the Buccaneers.
Super Eagles head coach Jose Peseiro has won six and lost six of his 15 matches in the dugout with his defence a concern after leaking 21-goals.
Another International call-up for Olisa Ndah will be an option, the first under Peseiro in November 2022 never materialized as the defender pulled out with injury.
Ndah was part of the Super Eagles squad to the last Cup of Nations and was in action vs Guinea-Bissau.
The Nigerian international joined Pirates in August 2021, shortly after a league title winning season with Akwa United FC.
In South Africa, Ndah has won two MTN-8 titles and one Nedbank Cup plus helping the Buccaneers reach the CAF Confederation Cup final in 2022, where they fell on penalties to Morocco’s RS Berkane at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium, Uyo.
