Olivier Giroud set to push for Chelsea exit in January
Olivier GiroudĀ is ready to consider offers to leave Chelsea in January to keep his Euro 2020 dream alive – unless he is given more playing time by Frank Lampard.
The 34-year-old has only played 154 minutes over six appearances this season, making just one start.
The 2018 World Cup winner needs to play to be assured of a place in France’s squad for next summer’s European Championship as coach Didier Deschamps recently urged the striker to find a resolution to his current situation.
āOlivier Giroud knows it ā the situation heās in today cannot drag on forever. Before March he will have to find another situation than this one,ā Deschamps told French radio station RTL.
āIt is for him to see, he will decide.
āBut in terms of the France team, psychologically and physically for him, he has every interest in having playing time. I hope that by January he will have more playing time.
āAfter that, he will stay [in the squad] or he wonāt. He knows what I think about it, I told him, although I donāt forget what he can do and what he might be able to do again.”
Giroud is expected to hold talks with Lampard in the coming weeks to clarify his future, according to ESPN.
