Olympics Eagles draw Shooting Stars in last friendly before qualifiers

U-23 Eagles battle for draw against NPFL opposition in Ibadan

Nigeria’s U-23 Eagles played out a 1-1 draw against Ibadan-based NPFL outfit Shooting Stars in their final warm-up game before their U-23 AFCON qualifier against Tanzania. The match took place at the Lekan Salami Stadium in Ibadan.

Having lost embarrassingly 3-0 to amateur side VIA academy in their first warm-up match, head coach Salisu Yusuf called up a number of new players to bolster the squad ahead of the two-legged encounter.

Former Ikorodu United forward Anthony Okachi opened the scoring for the Oluyole Warriors in the first half as they looked to secure a win over the national team. One of the team’s new invitees, Munir Idris, fired home an equaliser to spare the Eagles’ blushes. The Niger Tornadoes attacker was one of the team’s best players in the match.

After concluding two friendly matches, the Nigerian contingent will depart for Dar-es-Salaam on Thursday to honour their match against the Tanzanians. The return leg will take place on October 29th in Ibadan.
