Onome Ebi Challenges Super Falcons Coach Randy Waldrum Over Olympic Team Inclusion
Veteran Super Falcons defender Onome Ebi has issued a direct challenge to head coach Randy Waldrum, daring him to confront her about her inclusion in the Olympic Games roster.
Rumors surfaced on Monday suggesting that Waldrum, the American coach of the Nigerian women’s national team, is under pressure to include certain players in his squad for the upcoming Paris 2024 Olympic Games.
Ebi, reacting strongly on her WhatsApp status, expressed her frustration over the situation and Waldrum’s alleged comments.
“Randy said I was begging him to include me in the Olympic team, he should come and say it in front of me,” Ebi wrote.
Drawing a comparison with Brazilian star Marta, Ebi highlighted how other countries honor their veteran players. “Marta is going to the Olympics to be honored, and she will only appear in a few games. That is how to honor people who want to leave the national team.”
Ebi went on to express her frustration with her treatment in Nigeria, stating, “But it’s different in my country. They will use insults to frustrate your life. They have been frustrating me since I was 36, 37, and 38, to leave the national team.”
This public confrontation sheds light on the internal challenges within the Super Falcons camp as they prepare for the Olympics, highlighting the tensions between seasoned players and the coaching staff.
