Onyedika Wins Belgian League Title With Club Brugge
Nigeria midfielder Raphael Onyedika has won another major trophy after helping Club Brugge claim the 2025/26 Belgian Pro League title.
Club Brugge secured the championship on Thursday night following a 2-2 draw away to KV Mechelen, finishing above their closest challengers with one match still remaining.
The title race was very competitive, especially after Club Brugge finished behind their rivals during the regular season. However, the playoff format gave Brugge another chance to fight for the title, and they made the most of it with a strong run of results.
Important away victories against Gent and Anderlecht boosted their hopes before a dominant 5-0 win over Union Saint-Gilloise changed the direction of the title race.
Against Mechelen, Christos Tzolis scored the opening goal in the 16th minute, while Nicolò Tresoldi added the second shortly after the break. The home side fought back late in the match and earned a draw, but the point was enough for Club Brugge to seal their 20th league crown.
Onyedika was an unused substitute in the match, but the Nigerian midfielder played an important role throughout the season before the final weeks of the campaign. His energy, tackling ability and calm passing helped the team in many difficult games.
Since joining Club Brugge from Danish side FC Midtjylland in 2022, Onyedika has grown into one of the top midfielders in Belgium.
The 25-year-old has now won six major trophies in his professional career. With Club Brugge, he has lifted two Belgian league titles, the Belgian Cup and the Belgian Super Cup. He also won the Danish league and cup titles during his time in Denmark.
This season, the Super Eagles midfielder made 30 league appearances, scoring once and producing several strong performances. He also impressed in the UEFA Champions League as Club Brugge reached the knockout stage once again.
Reports in Europe suggest Onyedika could leave Club Brugge this summer after turning down a new contract offer, with clubs in England, Italy and Germany believed to be interested in signing him.
His strong performances at club level have also helped him remain a key player for Nigeria’s Super Eagles ahead of future international matches.
