Orlando Pirates’ Patrick Phungwayo arrested for attempted murder

Patrick Phungwayo and his brother Pheleani Aubrey were arrested on Monday for charges of attempted murder, assault and possession of an unlicensed firearm.

The Phungwayo brothers appeared at the Palm Ridge Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday, where Magistrate Van Der Hoevel granted them a bail of R2,000 each.

Last weekend, the Pirates’ left-back and his brother were at a party in Spruitview, east of Johannesburg. During the gathering, both were involved in an altercation with another man.

Allegedly, the man was assaulted and shot at by one of the brothers. The bullet hit his ring finger.

During the arrest on Monday, the police failed to find the firearm that was supposedly used in the incident.

The Magistrate in charge of the case postponed the matter to the 23rd of June for further investigation.
