Oshoala scores as Barcelona Femeni lose 2-1 to Manchester City Women

Barcelona progress to Champions League semi-final on 4-2 aggregate

Super Falcons striker, Asisat Oshoala was once again on the scoresheet as FC Barcelona Femeni lost 2-1 to Manchester City Women in the second leg of their UEFA Women’s Champions League quarterfinal game, although the Spanish side progressed to the semi-final with a 4-2 aggregate scoreline.

Manchester City took the lead in the 20th minute when Janine Beckie stabbed home from close range after a bit of pinball in the box following a Manchester City corner. Oshoala equalised for Barcelona as she turned home a pullback from Caroline Graham Hansen in the 59th minute, giving her side an important away goal. Manchester City went back in front just 9 minutes later after Sam Mewis found the net from the penalty spot, and the game ended 2-1 to the home side. Oshoala did not finish the game as she was replaced by Ana-Maria Crnogorcevic due to injury in the 78th minute after landing awkwardly following a leap.

Barcelona’s result means that they will now face one of French giants Paris St Germain or Olympique Lyonnais in the semifinals for a place in the final.
