Osimhen hailed by Luca Toni after brilliant equalizer in Napoli V. FC Barcelona UCL clash

Nigerian striker, Victor Osimhen showcased his exceptional talent with a brilliant goal against Barcelona in Wednesday night’s UEFA Champions League clash, drawing praise from former Bayern Munich star Luca Toni.

After the match in Naples on Wednesday, February 21, Toni revealed his admiration for the Super Eagles forward’s performance.

Following a relatively quiet spell at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations, Osimhen reminded fans of his prowess as one of the top strikers in the game with a superb finish against Barcelona.

Trailing to Robert Lewandowski’s 60th-minute strike, Napoli needed a spark, which Osimhen provided in the 75th minute with the equalizing goal before coming off.

Under the watchful eye of Barcelona defender Iñigo Martínez, Osimhen received a precise pass from André-Frank Zambo Anguissa. With remarkable skill, Osimhen shielded the ball from his marker, swiftly turned towards goal, and expertly slotted it past the goalkeeper.

The goal earned Osimhen praise from Napoli captain Giovanni Di Lorenzo, who hailed him as ‘a great champion.’ Retired Italian striker Luca Toni also lauded Osimhen’s performance, emphasizing his ability to outmaneuver defenders and deceive the goalkeeper with his finish.

As a seasoned commentator for Amazon Prime Video, Toni remarked, “Osimhen withstood the defender’s impact, protected the ball, turned well, and then in front of the goal, the goalkeeper was wrong-footed. A goal from a true striker.”

Toni further commended Napoli’s overall performance against FC Barcelona, praising their resilience and ability to challenge their opponents on the night.

In the current season, Osimhen has managed UEFA Champions League goals and seven in Serie A.
