Osimhen receives Serie A player of the month award, now 2nd Nigerian with most Serie A goals in a season

.... still chasing Simy Nwankwo's 20 tally

Victor Osimhen is now Nigeria’s 2nd top scorer in the Italian Serie A in a single season after surpassing Obafemi Martins’ goal hauls on Sunday.

The Nigerian striker assisted and scored a goal as his title-chasing Napolis suffered a 3-2 home loss to Fiorentina on Sunday.

Going into the game, Victor Osimhen was joint 2nd Nigerian top scorer in a single season in Serie A with Obafemi Martins but the 23-year-old striker scored a great goal to go 2nd on the list.

Victor Osimhen controlled a long pass aimed at him with his chest away from Fiorentina defender Igor before hitting with venom for his side’s second of the game.

The goal was Victor Osimhen’s 12th league goal of the season surpassing Obafemi Martins’ record of 11 set in 2004-2005 season with Inter Milan but Simy Nwankwo’s 20 hauls scored last season is still the highest.

The lanky striker scored 20 league goals for Crotone in the Serie A last season.

Victor Osimhen is also the first Nigerian to score double figures in two consecutive Serie A seasons having scored 10 last season and 12 so far this season.

Meanwhile, Victor Osimhen was also rewarded with his Serie A player of the month award before the game. The Nigerian who scored four goals in three games claimed the award for the month of March.
