Osimhen: Super Eagles will aim for 2023 AFCON title

Super Eagles striker Victor Osimhen says Nigeria will aim for the title at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations – AFCON tournament in Ivory Coast.

Nigeria secured qualification for the 2023 AFCON tournament with a 3-2 win over Sierra Leone in June with a final qualification round game Vs Sao Tome and Principe to spare.

In a chat with Wazobia FM Lagos, holidaying Napoli striker Victor Osimhen, said the Super Eagles have a great squad capable of delivering a 4th AFCON title for Nigeria if ‘ God wills ‘.

Osimhen said ” We have a great squad to do well, I’m proud of the team.

” We fight for the team because it’s a privilege to play for Nigeria.

“We expect greatness, we will aim for the trophy. ”

On losing the faith of Nigerians and impact of having experienced players within the Super Eagles squad, Osimhen named three players who have been helpful to the younger ones, while assuring the team was ready to win back hearts at the AFCON.

” We have experienced players and leaders like Ahmed Musa, Kenneth Omeruo and Wilfred Ndidi, who have been helpful to the younger players, ” the Italian Serie A top-scorer revealed.

“I know some of the fans have given up on us (after the Eagles failed to qualify for the 2022 World Cup), but I hope they will come back to support us.

“They will see a different Super Eagles, we’re working very hard.

“We will have a good tournament and if God wills, we will win it.”

The 2023 AFCON finals is billed to take place between 13 January and 11 February 2024 in Cote d’Ivoire.
