Pacquiao-Khan super fight agreed for April

Amir Khan has landed his long-desired welterweight bout with WBO champion Manny Pacquiao, with help from the Filipino legend’s Twitter following.

Khan (31-4) won a poll of Pacquiao’s followers when the 38-year-old asked who his next title defence should be against.

Kell Brook – Khan’s fellow Briton, who has sought a bout with the Bolton native – Australia’s Jeff Horn and American Terence Crawford missed out.

Though Pacquiao (59-6-2) said at the time that his next bout would be held in the United Arab Emirates, a venue for his bout with Khan is yet to be confirmed.

Pacquiao is the reigning WBO welterweight champion, having won the belt against Jessie Vargas in November.

The pair have shared a coach in Freddie Roach in the past and have previously been sparring partners.

Roach claimed that former light-welterweight world champion Khan knocked out Pacquiao during those exchanges, which the 30-year-old has held up for many years as evidence of his top-level credentials.

Khan was brutally knocked out the last time he stepped in the ring, having stepped up two weight classes to fight Mexican mauler Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez in May last year.

“There’s a couple of locations we’re looking at. One is UK, one is Dubai and one is in the USA,” Khan told followers on Snapchat.

“The fight is going to be for the WBO title and it’s going to be a fight I know I can win. I know a lot about Manny Pacquiao.”
