Pep Guardiola frustrated as Manchester City settle for draw against Newcastle

Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola expressed frustration after his team’s 1-1 draw against Newcastle United in Saturday’s early Premier League kickoff at St James’ Park. Despite dominating much of the game, City were unable to secure all three points, continuing a run of just one win in their last four matches.

City opened the scoring through Josko Gvardiol’s 35th-minute strike, putting Guardiola’s men in the lead. However, they failed to extend their advantage, which allowed Newcastle to fight back. Anthony Gordon won a penalty for the Magpies, leading to the equaliser that left City frustrated.

Reflecting on the match, Guardiola acknowledged his team’s inability to capitalise on their dominance. “We played really well, but we made bad decisions at the last minute to make it 2-0,” Guardiola told TNT Sports. “It’s always tough against Newcastle. Their physicality and deep defending make it difficult.”

Guardiola also praised Newcastle goalkeeper Nick Pope for his key saves, which kept City from restoring their lead. Despite City’s control for much of the match, they struggled to break down Newcastle’s resilient defence.

City’s recent form has seen them drop points in back-to-back games, following a 2-2 draw with Arsenal in their previous Premier League fixture. With only one win from their last four games, Guardiola will be looking for a swift turnaround as his side continues their campaign for the Premier League title.
