Pep hints at players rest against Chelsea as he prioritises City’s visit to Newcastle

Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola has hinted that he could rest some of his stars as he looked forward into his side’s FA Cup clash against Newcastle on Sunday.

Pep Guardiola and Manchester City travel to Stamford Bridge to take on Chelsea in a Premier League on Thursday without injured star striker Sergio Kun Aguero.

Sergi Aguero picked up an injury in City’s 5-0 win against Burnley on Monday, with the Premier League already out of their reach; Pep and his boys are still in contention for the FA Cup and Uefa Champions League title.

And Pep Guardiola has hinted at resting his players against Chelsea tomorrow because they want to be fresh when the face Newcastle at St. James Park in the FA Cup clash on Sunday.

‘I cannot deny we have one eye on Newcastle,’ said Pep during the pre-match conference.

‘Chelsea is a prestigious game but Newcastle is a final for us.

‘The team selection will depend on physical condition.

‘We will take a look at what will come next, not just the game against Chelsea.’

The match would be played on Thursday by 8:15 pm.
