Peter Rufai advises Maduka Okoye to quit Watford

1994 AFCON winning goalkepeer Peter Rufai has advised compatriot Maduka Okoye to quit Watford FC in the current transfer window.

According to the retired Nigerian shot-stopper, Okoye is a quality goalkepeer and shouldn’t be satisfied with his situation at English Championship side Watford.

The 16-cap Super Eagles shot-stopper has made just one appearance for Watford FC since joining from Sparta Rotterdam, lan Bachmann and Ben Hamer preferred to Okoye at Watford.

” Okoye is a quality goalkeeper and I know if he’s giving the chance he will definitely prove his worth, ” Rufai told COMPLETESPORTS.

“However, it’s unfortunate that he has been considered for the bench despite his brilliant form for Dutch side Sparta Rotterdam. ”

Okoye arrived at Watford on the back of a superb performance to save Sparta Rotherham from relegation in the Dutch Eredivise.

The Nigerian goalkepeer was tipped to start as first choice for the Hornets but then manager Rob Edwards will prefer lan Bachmann a status maintained by current manager Slaven Billic.

Watford FC will take on Reading in a FA cup clash later this evening but Okoye if selected may only deputize for Ben Hamer, a situation Rufai things should change with opportunities in the winter transfer window.

“Yes, there is nothing bad if he decide to wait for his chance, but then it will be good for him to look elsewhere where he can be playing regularly.” Rufai added.
