PFA Players’ Player shortlist: Leicester City trio Kante, Mahrez, Vardy make the cut

Leicester City‘s N’Golo Kante, Riyad Mahrez and Jamie Vardy make up half of the six-man PFA Players’ Player of the Year shortlist.

Leicester are on course to win the Premier League in one of the biggest shocks in top-flight history having needed seven wins from their last nine matches to escape relegation last year.

Vardy, Mahrez and Kante have stood out and the Foxes’ trio are joined by Tottenham Hotspur frontmanHarry Kane, Arsenal playmaker Mesut Ozil and West Ham United‘s Dimitri Payet.

Kane, the Premier League’s top scorer with 22 goals, is also up for the Young Player of the Year prize and is looking to retain the award having won it a year ago.

He is joined by Spurs teammate Dele Alli on the shortlist, with Everton duo Ross Barkley and Romelu Lukaku, Stoke City goalkeeper Jack Butland and Liverpool‘s Philippe Coutinho the others nominated.
