Philip Billing working on dumping Denmark for Nigeria?
Bournemouth midfielder Philip Billing is reportedly working on switching his international allegiance from Denmark to Nigeria.
Born Philip Anyanwu Billing in Copenhagen to a Nigerian father and a Danish mother, the 23-year-old midfielder who had played for Denmark’s U-19, U-21 teams is eligible to represent the Eagles – a move he might be considering according to reports.
But a popular Nigerian journalist, Colin Udoh, has confirmed that Philip Billing is yet to file for a change of country at the moment.
“Read that Philip Billing has filed his papers for a nationality switch from Denmark to Nigeria. Contacted high level team sources and been told it has not happened yet,” said Udoh via his social media platform.
Although, the player in question has recently followed the NFF and Super Eagles on social media, fuelling the rumour he is working on dumping Denmark for Nigeria.
“A couple of weeks ago, Alex Iwobi asked if I might be interested in playing for Nigeria.
“I am half Nigerian and I feel that way too but I was born and raised in Denmark.
“My mother and my sister are Danish, so it would feel strange to have to play for Nigeria,” said Billing back in November.
Should this move materialise he would be a great addition to an already packed midfield which has Alex Iwobi, Wilfred Ndidi, Joe Aribo, Semi Ajayi and Oghenekaro Etebo.
