Akwa United’s Alhassan joins Odey and Bala on the exclusive list

Akwa United attacker Alhassan Ibrahim has become the latest player in the 2016-17 Nigeria Professional Football League season to record a hat trick.

Alhassan Ibrahim scored a 16-minute first half hattrick as Akwa United trashed Shooting Stars 4-2 at the Nest of Champions in Uyo on Sunday.

The former Wikki Tourists star intercepted Sodiq Suraj’s diagonal pass across the penalty box, before rounding goalkeeper Adamu and calmly slotting into an empty net for his first and his team’s second goal in the 28th minute.

In the 36th minute of the tie, Ibrahim scored a superb goal to increase his tally to two and with one minute left on the clock before the end of the first half, Alhassan Ibrahim got his hat-trick, heading home Amaechi Orji’s excellent cross.

The hat trick meant he is just the third player in the 2016-17 NPFL season to have scored an hattrick after MFM FC’s Stephen Odey against Lobi Stars and Plateau United’s Reuben Bala against ABS.
