Poland Coach Michal Probierz Resigns After Clash With Lewandowski
Michal Probierz has resigned as head coach of Poland, following a public fallout with the team’s star striker, Robert Lewandowski.
Probierz made the announcement on Thursday, saying he stepped down “for the good of the national team.”
“I have come to the conclusion that in the current situation, the best decision for the good of the national team is for me to resign,” he said in a statement.
Lewandowski Refused to Play
The decision comes just days after Lewandowski said he would not play for Poland as long as Probierz remained in charge. The striker was upset after Probierz took away the captain’s armband from him.
Poor Result Against Finland
The situation worsened after Poland lost 2-1 to Finland on Sunday, a result that saw them drop from the top of their European World Cup qualifying group.
The defeat, combined with the tension in the dressing room, led to Probierz’s exit.
Poland will now be looking for a new head coach as they try to get back on track in their qualifying campaign.
