Police open inquest after Bafana Bafana star Jayden Adams found dead at 25

Police have opened an inquest after Bafana Bafana and Mamelodi Sundowns midfielder Jayden Adams was found dead at a property in Cape Town on Saturday. He was 25.

Police spokesperson Captain FC van Wyk confirmed that officers found Adams’ body at a property in Military Road, Schotsche Kloof, at about 11am.

“Cape Town Central police station registered an inquest for investigation following the discovery of the body of a 25-year-old male at a premises in Military Road, Scotscheskloof,” Van Wyk said.

“Circumstances surrounding this incident are under investigation.”

According to unofficial information reported by IOL, Adams is believed to have died by suicide. However, police have not confirmed the cause of death and have only announced that an inquest has been opened.

At the time of publication, Mamelodi Sundowns had not released an official statement. The club is understood to have asked for privacy and space for Adams’ family during this difficult time.

Tributes have already started pouring in from across South African football.

Gayton McKenzie shared a video on X showing himself embracing the midfielder and wrote: “Rest in peace my precious boy.”

Fight Against Crime SA also expressed its condolences to Adams’ family, his teammates, Mamelodi Sundowns, Bafana Bafana, the South African Football Association and the wider football community.

Adams’ death comes just two weeks after he represented South Africa at the FIFA Club World Cup, where he featured in the team’s first two matches before they reached the knockout stage.

Police say investigations into the circumstances surrounding his death are continuing
