Prolific Nigerian youngster Peter Ita attracts NPFL and International Interest
Cites Bayer Leverkusen's Victor Boniface as his role model
Prolific Nigerian youngster Peter Ita, who cites Victor Boniface as his role model, is emerging as a highly sought-after talent both within the NPFL and abroad.
Peter Ita dazzled during the 2023/2024 season while on loan at Sir Monty FC from Blessed Stars Football Academy, Uyo.
His exceptional performances have not gone unnoticed, with at least three Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) clubs—Kano Pillars FC, Niger Tornadoes, and recently promoted Ikorodu City FC—showing strong interest in the left-footed forward.
Blessed with a powerful left foot and impressive physical strength, Peter Ita’s goal-scoring prowess has been a major factor in the attention he is receiving. His standout performances in the Nationwide League and recent pre-season friendly games with Blessed Stars Academy have only increased his stock.
Recall that Super Eagles forward Victor Boniface excelled with Nigerian Academy Real Sapphire, much like Peter Ita is currently doing with his goals for Blessed Stars Academy, including his recent achievement of 9 goals in four games at the Excellent Sports Management pre-season tournament.
In June 2024, Peter Ita was part of a Nigerian Youth team that won an invitational tournament in Benin Republic. Captain of that team and Nigeria U-20 star Ime Sampson has recently joined Armenian Club FC Van.
In addition to local interest, Ita is attracting significant attention from European and North African clubs. At least three teams from these regions are in discussions to secure his services this summer. His representatives are currently weighing these offers to determine the best opportunity for his future.
Ita’s aspiration to move abroad mirrors the path of his role model, Victor Boniface. Boniface, who also excelled at a Nigerian academy, Real Sapphire, was later spotted by foreign scouts.
He first joined Cypriot side Lefke TSK, before stints with Norwedian outfit Bodø/Glimt and Union Saint-Gilloloise where he developed his talents and is now making waves at German Bundesliga side Bayer Leverkusen, where he recently won the league title.
As the transfer window draws to a close, it remains to be seen which club will secure the services of this promising young forward.
However, Ita’s potential to follow in the footsteps of successful Nigerian players in Europe is evident, and he could soon make a significant impact on the international stage.
