PSG appoint Pochettino as new manager
French Champions, Paris St. Germain, have announced the appointment of Argentine manager, Mauricio Pochettino on a permanent basis, replacing German tactician, Thomas Tuchel, after the German was sacked by the club with PSG 3rd in the league standings, one point adrift of Lille and Lyon who occupy the first 2 places.
Pochettino’s last job was at English side, Tottenham Hotspur, who he led to the Champions League final in 2019, before they eventually lost to Liverpool. He began his managerial career at Espanyol in the Spanish La Liga, before moving to English side, Southampton in 2013. He spent one year at Southampton, impressing sufficiently enough for Tottenham to appoint him as their manager. Under his tutelage, Tottenham quickly became well known for their good football. He was relieved of his duty as Tottenham manager in November 2019, and replaced by Jose Mourinho.
Pochettino, who spent two years of his playing career playing for PSG between 2001 and 2003, was quoted in 2016 as having said that he wished for a chance to manage Paris Saint Germain. His first task would definitely be to go one better than his predecessor, Tuchel, by leading the team to Champions League glory after the heartbreak at the hands of Bayern Munich in the final last year. He would also need to convince star men, Neymar and Kylian Mbappe, to extend their contracts, as they are approaching the end of their current deals.
