Qinwen Zheng stuns Iga Swiatek to reach US Open Quarterfinals
Qinwen Zheng has done it again.
The Chinese star came back from 0-5 down in the opening set to beat Iga Swiatek 7-5, 6-3 and reach the US Open quarterfinals.
It is the second match in a row that Zheng has won a set after trailing 0-5 at this tournament. She has now reached her third US Open quarterfinal and her first Grand Slam quarterfinal since Roland Garros 2025.
Qinwen Zheng is the first player since Emma Raducanu in 2021 to come through qualifying and then reach the US Open quarterfinals.
After completing another stunning comeback, Zheng fell onto her back in pure joy.
“I guess to come back from 0-5 yesterday is not ‘lucky’… that’s all I can say.”
Swiatek was asked how she would process letting a 5-0 lead slip away in the opening set. Her response was blunt:
“It’s just one match, like…. try to play the same way as usual. What do you mean. Do you think it’s something crazy? You can lose a set from any score, nothing special about that. Just that’s what happened and that’s it.”
