Real Madrid beat Bilbao to win 2022 Supercopa de España

Real Madrid have won the 2022 Supercopa de España after securing a 2-0 win against Athletic Bilbao at King Fahd International Stadium on Sunday.

Los Blancos dethroned the 2021 champions to claim the 2022 title.

Athletic Bilbao defeated Atletico Madrid 2-1 in the semifinal to book a place in the final while Real Madrid beat Barcelona after extra time in the other semi to book a final spot.

Luka Modric gave Real Madrid the lead in the 38th minutes with a curler in the box and ever reliable Karim Benzema scored the second goal via a penalty in the 52nd minutes of the game.

Real Madrid were reduced to 10-man when Eder Militao was sent off and Athletic Bilbao had a chance to reduce the deficit but Thibaut Courtois saved Raul Garcia 89th minutes penalty.

A win for Real Madrid helped Los Blancos erase the memory of their semifinal loss to Athletic Club in last year’s Supercopa de España.
