Real Madrid Brush Aside Al Ahly To Book World Club Cup Final Place

Real Madrid earned a well-deserved 4-1 win over Al Ahly to qualify for the final of the FIFA World Club Cup.

The European Champions were without seven of their key players in the encounter, but they had too much in their tank to despatch the Egyptians.

Vinicius gave Real Madrid the lead three minutes before halftime with a delightful chip before Valverde added the second with smashing finish in the second half.

Ali Maaloul halved the deficit from the penalty spot in the 65th minute.

Mohamed Afsha missed a sitter from close-range as Ah Ahly began to cause problems for Real Madrid.

Mohammed El Shenawy denied Luka Modric from the penalty spot in the 87th minute.

Rodrygo and Sergio Arribas scored two late goals to hand Real Madrid a 4-1 win.

Carlo Ancelotti was unhappy with his players for losing focus in the second half.

“When we were leading 2-0 (early in the second half), we thought that the game was over and started to dribble a little too much,” Ancelotti told a news conference on Wednesday.

“This is a tournament that Real Madrid have a lot to lose and a nothing to win,” the Italian added.

“We thought that the game was won 2-0 and things are not like that, we have relaxed and it cannot be like that.”

Al Ahly will now face Flamengo in the third-place match, while Real Madrid will battle Al Hilal in the final on Saturday.
