Real Madrid Considering Surprise Move for Rodri
Real Madrid could make a surprise move to sign Manchester City midfielder Rodri after his outstanding performances at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
The Spain captain played a key role in helping his country win the tournament and was named the World Cup’s best player. His impressive displays have reportedly changed the views of some senior officials at the Spanish club.
Earlier in the summer, Real Madrid were not expected to sign Rodri. There were concerns about his fitness after he suffered a serious knee injury in 2024, while new manager José Mourinho was believed to prefer a different type of midfielder.
However, Rodri’s return to top form at the World Cup has increased interest in bringing him to the Santiago Bernabéu.
Despite the growing interest, there is no confirmation that Real Madrid have started talks with Manchester City over a possible transfer.
Rodri, who turned 30 last month, is also expected to undergo a minor operation to treat a back problem. The procedure is not expected to keep him out for long.
If Real Madrid decide to sign the midfielder, the club may first need to sell one or more players to make room in the squad. French midfielder Eduardo Camavinga has been mentioned as one player the club could allow to leave, although he is understood to want to remain in Madrid.
Rodri’s future remains uncertain, but his brilliant World Cup campaign has made a move to Real Madrid a possibility once again.
