Real Madrid survive Atletico Madrid scare to reach Champions League quarter-final

Real Madrid have won 4-2 on penalties to reach the Champions League quarter-finals after a dramatic match against Atletico Madrid.

Atletico Madrid levelled the tie with a goal from Conor Gallagher just 27 seconds into the game. Vinicius Junior had a chance to put Real Madrid ahead in the 70th minute with a penalty, but he sent the ball well over the crossbar.

Vinicius didn’t get another chance to redeem himself in the shootout, but his teammates stepped up and won the penalty shootout. The drama continued when Julian Alvarez had his penalty disallowed after slipping and touching the ball twice.

Antonio Rudiger scored the decisive penalty after Marcos Llorente hit the crossbar with his spot kick.

Real Madrid will now face Arsenal in the quarter-finals.
