Red-hot Cyriel Dessers nets brace as Feyenoord frustrate PSV in Eredivisie

Forgotten Super Eagles star Cyriel Dessers was the hero once again as Feyenoord held PSV to a 2-2 draw at De Kuip Stadium to deny their visitors a chance to close the gap to leaders Ajax.

After dominating early proceedings, PSV opened the scoring in the 16th minute through Dutch winger and captain Cody Gakpo. The 23-year-old forward was played in by Joey Veerman and he applied a brilliant finish to give PSV the lead.

Less than 15 minutes later, Gakpo showed brilliant composure to add a second goal for the visitors. Israeli forward Eran Zahavi played his captain in, and the Dutchman finished with a delicate dink over onrushing Feyenoord goalkeeper Ofir Marciano.

Feyenoord pushed for a goal to get them back into the game and after a number of missed chances from Cyriel Dessers in particular, the Nigerian forward finally found his goalscoring boots in the 86th minute.

The Belgium-born striker moved cleverly beyond the last defender to plant a firm header into the back of the net following a cross from teammate Luis Sinisterra.

With the game quickly heading towards its conclusion, Cyriel Dessers would have the final say as he scored an equaliser for Feyenoord from the penalty spot with what was virtually the last kick of the game. A PSV player was adjudged to have handled the ball in his box and Dessers stepped up to send goalkeeper Yann Mvogo the wrong way, sparking wild celebrations from his teammates.

The result means that PSV remain four points behind leaders Ajax, who drew 2-2 with AZ Alkmaar with only two games left to play.

Alongside his heroics in the UEFA Europa Conference League where he has 10 goals and two assists in 12 appearances, Cyriel Dessers has now scored eight goals for Feyenoord in the Eredivisie this season, with five of his goals coming after the 90th minute of matches.
