Remo Stars Crowned 2024/2025 NPFL Champions After Big Win Over Ikorodu City
Remo Stars Football Club were officially crowned champions of the 2024/2025 Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) on Sunday after a strong 4-1 win against Ikorodu City in Ikenne, Ogun State.
The Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, presented the NPFL trophy to the team at the Remo Stars Stadium, where fans celebrated their club’s first-ever top-flight league title.
Ikorodu City scored first in the 15th minute, but Remo Stars hit back with four goals. Sikiru Alimi equalised in the 37th minute, and Ibrahim Shuaib gave them the lead just before half-time in the 41st minute. Babatunde Bello, who was celebrating his birthday, added the third goal in the 48th minute, and Olamilekan Adedayo completed the scoring in the 67th minute.
The win took Remo Stars to 71 points, making it impossible for any other team to catch them with one match left to play.
Founded in 2004 by Kunle Soname, the club’s journey from lower divisions to NPFL champions is a proud moment for the Southwest. It is the first time a team from the region has won the league since Julius Berger in 1991.
With the NPFL title secured, Remo Stars will now represent Nigeria in next season’s CAF Champions League.
