Report: Arsenal table £40m bid for Monaco’s Thomas Lemar

Arsenal have reportedly submitted a new £40million transfer bid for Monaco winger Thomas Lemar after failing with their opening bid for one of Arsene Wenger‘s top targets.

The 21-year-old shone for Monaco in their title-winning campaign last season, contributing 14 goals and 14 assists to the Ligue 1 giants to attract interest from top clubs around Europe this summer.

According to L’Equipe, Arsenal have come back with a second offer to Monaco for Lemar, whose fine performances have also seen him become a target for Italian champions Juventus.

Monaco were supposedly ‘surprised’ by Arsenal’s low-ball first bid for Lemar, which was reportedly in the region of £30m, so the north Londoners will hope to have more luck this time around.

Still, if other sources are to be believed, Arsenal may have to pay as much as double their second bid of £40m, with some claims that the French champions want a staggering £80m for their star player.
