Report: Liverpool to be without Divock Origi for up to six weeks

Divock Origi will not feature for Liverpool again this season and is now in a battle to be fit for Euro 2016, according to a report.

The Belgium international was stretchered off the field during the Reds’ victory over Everton on Wednesday night following a late challenge from Ramiro Funes Mori.

Jurgen Klopp revealed after the game that the injury was not as bad as first feared, with initial indications suggesting that the 21-year-old had possibly broken his ankle.

According to a report carried in The Mirror, scans on Thursday found some ligament damage which will now likely keep him out of action for between four to six weeks.

Just three weeks remain of the Premier League season, however, meaning that Origi could have played his last minutes for Liverpool this term, and he will instead now focus on getting fully fit for this summer’s Euros which get underway on June 10.

Origi has transformed into a key component at Anfield since Klopp took charge of the club last October, finding the net five times in his last five outings prior to his injury setback.

Funes Mori has since offered an apology to the striker for his horror challenge, claiming that he “regrets” what happens and never intended to hurt his opponent.
