Report: Ten Hag Set To Freez Out Super Eagles Star Boniface at Leverkusen
Former Manchester United boss Erik ten Hag has reportedly made it clear that Nigerian striker Victor Boniface is not in his plans at Bayer 04 Leverkusen.
Boniface, 24, enjoyed an outstanding debut season in Germany, scoring 21 goals and providing 9 assists in 34 games. He helped Leverkusen win both the Bundesliga and the DFB-Pokal under former coach Xabi Alonso.
However, injuries disrupted his most recent campaign, and he managed just 11 goals in 27 appearances. With Alonso now at Real Madrid, Ten Hag has taken over at the BayArena and is already making big changes to the squad.
According to Bild, Ten Hag has chosen Patrik Schick as his main striker for the 2025/26 season, despite the Czech forward being unhappy with his game time last term. Leverkusen will also complete the signing of Christian Kofane from Albacete as Schick’s back-up.
That leaves Boniface as the third-choice striker and on his way out of the club. Leverkusen are reportedly asking for €50 million for the Nigerian, who is attracting interest from Premier League side Newcastle United.
But Boniface, who is part of the Super Eagles setup, has stated in the past that he prefers a move to Spain rather than England.
With his future now uncertain under Ten Hag, the summer transfer window could see the talented forward find a new home in La Liga or beyond.
