Revealed: Victor Osimhen Took Risks to Play Against Fenerbahçe

Galatasaray striker Victor Osimhen was reportedly ready to put his fitness at risk so he could play in the Istanbul derby against Fenerbahçe.

The Super Eagles forward has been out since the last international break after getting injured during Nigeria’s World Cup qualifier playoff defeat to DR Congo. Because of this, he missed the league match against Gençlerbirliği and the Champions League loss to Union Saint-Gilloise. He only returned to training last Friday.

Despite not being fully fit, Osimhen played 89 minutes in the 1–1 draw with Fenerbahçe. He did not have his usual strong impact, but just being available for the match showed his dedication.

What Osimhen said

According to Goal Turkey, Osimhen told his teammates before the match that he would do everything possible to play in the derby. He also reportedly pushed coach Okan Buruk to include him.

He said:

“I know the importance of the Fenerbahçe derby and what it means to the fans. I felt this excitement last season. This club invested in me for big matches like this. If necessary, I will take risks, go onto the pitch, and give my all.”
