Revealed: When NFF will appoint a new head coach for the Super Falcons
The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has decided not to appoint a permanent head coach for the Super Falcons until 2025. Justin Madugu will take over as interim coach.
According to a source within the NFF per BSN, the federation has concluded its relationship with former coach Randy Waldrum and plans to name his replacement next year.
The decision to delay hiring a substantive head coach is reportedly due to the lack of international competitions for the women’s national team this year.
An insider from the NFF headquarters in Abuja disclosed that the federation aims to focus on developing home-based talent during this period.

As part of this strategy, Madugu will be officially appointed as the interim coach and will invite 30 home-based players to a training camp in Abuja ahead of the 2024/25 Nigeria Women’s Football League (NWFL) season.
“The Nigeria Football Federation will not engage the services of any substantive coach for the Super Falcons until next year because there are no international games for them this year,” the source said. “Meanwhile, Justin Madugu will be announced as the interim coach. He will invite 30 home-based players to camp in Abuja before the 2024/25 NWFL kicks off. His assignment is to identify the best players among the local players to challenge for shirts with their foreign counterparts.”
Madugu has already made a significant impact as interim coach. During his previous tenure, he led the Super Falcons to a dominant 5-0 victory over Cape Verde in Abuja, with goals from Uchenna Kanu, Esther Okoronkwo, and Gift Monday. The Super Falcons secured their qualification with a 7-1 aggregate win.
As the nine-time African champions prepare for the upcoming NWFL season, the NFF’s focus will remain on developing local talent under Madugu’s guidance, with plans to bring in a permanent head coach in 2025.
