Richarlson mentions 3 defenders better than Van Dijk ahead of Merseyside derby
Everton forward Richarlison has made it clear he is not afraid of Liverpool defender, Virgil Van Dijk ahead of Sunday’s Merseyside derby saying at least three defenders are better than the Dutch.
The former Watford forward believes Van Dijk is great but his ability may be overblown by people talking a lot about him.
Virgil Van Dijk has been praised to have sorted out Liverpool’s defensive woos and put them up amongst the best clubs in Europe but many have forgotten the impact of goalkeeper Allison Becker.
Before Allison Becker arrived, even with Van Dijk Liverpool lost in the Champions League final against Real Madrid but everyone forgets the calmness and trust that Allison Becker brought into the team and talks only about Virgil Van Dijk.
Hence, when Richarlison was asked about Van Dijk in an interview with Brazilian YouTube channel Desimpedidos, he said: “People talk a lot about him, yes he is a great defender but I’ve already dribbled past him.
“He was chosen as one of the top three in the world as he had an excellent season. But yes, for me there are better defenders.”
When asked to name the players he believes are better than Van Dijk, Richarlison replied: “Thiago Silva, Marquinhos and Sergio Ramos.”
Both players would face off this Sunday in the Merseyside derby by 7 pm.
