Rita Nwadike Backs Super Falcons to Retain WAFCON Title in Morocco
Former Super Falcons striker Rita Nwadike has backed Nigeria to successfully defend their Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) title in Morocco.
The Nigerian football legend believes the Super Falcons have the quality, experience and team spirit needed to win a record-extending 11th African title.
Speaking exclusively on The MTN Super Falcons Show, Nwadike said the players must remain focused, disciplined and work together throughout the tournament.
“The Super Falcons remain the biggest team in women’s football in Africa. They have quality players, experienced professionals and a good technical crew. I believe they can successfully defend the title if they stay focused and play as a team,” she said.
Nwadike also urged Nigerians to stand behind the team as they begin their campaign in Morocco.
“Representing Nigeria comes with great responsibility, but I know these girls understand what is at stake. They should believe in themselves, give everything on the pitch and make the country proud. Nigerians should continue to support and encourage them.”
The former captain said playing for Nigeria remains one of the greatest honours for any footballer.
Nwadike made history by scoring Nigeria’s first-ever goal at the FIFA Women’s World Cup during a 3-3 draw against Canada at the 1995 tournament in Sweden. She also played a key role in helping the Super Falcons dominate women’s football in Africa.
She believes the current squad has a great chance to add another WAFCON title to Nigeria’s impressive record and inspire young female footballers across the country.
Nigeria head into the 2026 WAFCON as defending champions and the most successful team in the history of the competition with 10 titles. The Super Falcons will be aiming to win an 11th crown as they continue their Mission XI campaign in Morocco.
