Rivers 1 Rangers 0: Esosa Igbinoba’s strike end United winless run

Esosa Igbinoba’s first-minute strike ensured Rivers United ended their winless run of 6 games in the Nigeria Professional Football League.

Rivers United beat fellow CAF Champions League campaigner 1-0 in the NPFL Matchday 12 fixture in Port Harcourt on Sunday.

A corner taken short and beautifully worked out by Bernard OvokeĀ in the first minute of the match found Igbinoba on the edge of the crowded box and the attacker fired a low shot past Itodo Akor in goal for the Flying Antelopes.

With both teams trying to settle into the game after the early goal, actions continued to be an end to end proceedingĀ with nothing fruitful coming out of the interplays.

In the end, Rivers United maintained their lead to secure their first victory in the league after 6 games.

Rivers United have now moved up on the log to 12th position with 14 points while Rangers United remained in the 16th position with 12 points from 10 games.
