Rivers United FC 1-0 Remo Stars; Wasiu Jimoh’s last minute gasp earn United the maximum points

Wasiu Jimoh scored on the death of ninety (90) minutes to give Rivers United all three (3) points against Remo Stars FC in a rescheduled match day one result at the Yakubu Gowon Stadium in Port Harcourt.

Both sides started slowly into the game but the Sky Blues got the first clear opportunity to go ahead through a nice build up from Kingsley Akemini and Ojo Tolulope to set up Victor Mbaoma but he fired wide.

The visitors continued to push harder as Ojo Tolulope couldn’t convert from Awoyemi Abiodun’s corner kick and Bamba Drissa grabbed easily.

Ndah Olisa denied a goal bound opportunity from the host after he stopped a good pass from Kehinde Adedipe directed to Wasiu Jimoh.

The pride of Rives continued to mount pressure but Ndah Olisa was active enough to deny Wasiu Jimoh’s attempt from Kehinde Adedipe’s through pass.

The coast became clearer for the host after Weli Christian sent in a diagonal pass inside the visitor’s box but Wasiu Jimoh couldn’t slot in at ease into an empty net.

The pride of Rivers came knocking on the dot of an hour, Wasiu Jimoh found his way around his marker to take a brilliant strike but the woodwork denied him the opportunity to give his side the lead.

The Sky Blue Stars continued to keep the momentum in the game as Ekene Awazie found his way pass his marker to set up Mbaoma Victor but he didn’t reach early to convert.

On the dot of ninety minutes, the referee showed Kunle Odunlami a red card for intentionally punching Chidume Victor in the cause of the game.

Finally, Wasiu Jimoh pushed Rivers United to the top of Group A table after he scored from close range in the last minute minute of the game.

The Sky Blue Stars next stop is in Ondo State as Sunshine Stars host Remo Stars FC at the Akure Township Stadium in Matchday Six (6) of the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL).
