Rivers United out to compound Kwara United’s woes to compensate fans for Enyimba loss

Rivers United suffered a first defeat of the season on Sunday against the country’s most successful club, Enyimba International as the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) hit the match day six mark.

It was a painful reverse for the ‘Pride of Rivers’ who gave as good as they got in the contest, particularly in the first half when they had several excellent opportunities to take the lead in Aba.

Technical Manager of the club, Stanley Eguma has now stressed that the loss to Enyimba is ‘a thing of the past; and wants a quick response from his charges as they face the ‘Afonja Warriors’ at the Yakubu Gowon Stadium on Wednesday.

“We had our chances against Enyimba in Aba but we made one mistake and conceded in the first half and from then, it became complicated,” Eguma told riversunitedfc media.

Kwara United are in the relegation zone and have won just once this season but the Illorin club also drew one of their three fixtures on the road this term (against Insurance in Benin City on January 23) and Eguma readily admits that they are extremely dangerous opponents.

“We cannot afford to relax against Kwara United because they are a side that can get results on the road too.

“It is an important game so we don’t have to toy with it.

“Our utmost desire is to win the match and get the three points at stake,” he said.

Wednesday’s game at the Yakubu Gowon Stadium, Port Harcourt kicks off at 4pm.
