Rivers Win Men’s Basketball Gold at National Sports Festival
Rivers State has confirmed its place among Nigeria’s top basketball teams with a hard-earned victory at the 22nd National Sports Festival in Ogun State.
Team Rivers beat Team Plateau 63-58 in a closely fought men’s basketball final on Friday at the busy Alake Sports Centre in Abeokuta.
The match was exciting and lived up to the hype, with both teams showing great skill, determination, and fight.
Rivers held a small lead for most of the game, but Plateau kept pushing right until the final whistle.
In the last few minutes of the fourth quarter, Rivers’ strong defence and smart tactics helped them stop Plateau’s late challenge and secure the win.
With this victory, Rivers has strengthened its reputation as one of the best basketball teams in the country. Plateau took home the silver medal after a tough battle.
The basketball final was one of the main events on Day 6 of the National Sports Festival, also known as Gateway Games 2024, which started on May 16 and will finish on May 30.
