Rodgers confirms Ndidi injured his knee in Leicester’s UECL loss to Rennes

Leicester City manager Brendan Rodgers has confirmed that Wilfred Ndidi has injured his knee in the club’s 2-1 loss to Rennes in a Europa Conference League game played on Thursday.

Three Super Eagles players were on parade during the game, Ademola Lookman, Kelechi Iheanacho, and Wilfred Ndidi as Leicester City secured an aggregate 3-2 win to boom a place in the quarterfinals.

Ademola Lookman assisted Leicester City’s only goal scored by Wesley Fofana in the 51st minute of the game but the ugly incident involving Wilfred Ndidi happened in the 60th minute.

The Nigerian midfielder had his knew hit by a Rennes player when they both contested for a ball, Wilfred Ndidi was substituted for James Maddison.

And coach Brendan Rodgers confirmed that Wilfred Ndidi has injured his knee and the extent of his injury will be examined.

“Marc Albrighton has a groin injury and Wilfred Ndidi is block tackle so he injured the medial ligament in his knee so will see how that is,” said Rodgers to BT Sports.

With Nigeria’s double-header game against Ghana fast approaching, playing those games without Wilfred Ndidi will be a huge blow for Super Eagles.

Ghana will host Nigeria in the first leg of the 2022 World Cup Playoffs on 25th March 2022 with the return leg in Nigeria to follow four days later.

The aggregate winner of both legs will qualify for the 2022 World Cup In Qatar later in the year.
