Rohr explains why Mikel hasn’t played for Nigeria since Argentina game, reveals when he will be back

Super Eagles manager, Gernot Rohr has revealed the reason behind the absence of his captain John Mikel Obi, reports Sportsration.com.

The former Chelsea midfielder has not played a game for Nigeria since the 2-1 loss to Argentina at the 2018 World Cup where he was left in tears.

The Super Eagles have played against Seychelles and will play a double-header tie without their captain and Rohr has explained that John Mikel Obi asked to be excused due to fitness.

“He asked to be excluded because he is not fully fit physically. The day he is fit physically and he is playing regularly for his club he will return,” Rohr explained.

Gernot Rohr added that he would gladly welcome the leader of his team for the November clash against the Bafana Bafana of South Africa.

“I hope soon and the only problem is that he needs to recover well. He is with us in the heart. He will return for the game against South Africa.”
