Romelu Lukaku rejects Didier Drogba’s comparison

Romelu Lukaku has insisted that he is a “different” type of player to Chelsea legend Didier Drogba, but hopes to have the same success under Jose Mourinho as his fellow striker.

The Belgium international joined Manchester United from Everton earlier this summer for a fee that could reach £90m with various add-ons.

Lukaku has rejected suggestions that he is a clone of Drogba, who used his stature to his advantage during nine years with the Blues, though he believes that he can put his own qualities to good use at Old Trafford to ‘create his own history’.

“I am different. Drogba is more of a target man, I am a player that has the ball into feet, who runs in behind,” he told reporters. “There are physical similarities but we are totally different players.

“I am Romelu Lukaku and I want to create my own history. He was at Chelsea, I am at Manchester United. That is the difference.”

Lukaku, sold to Everton by Mourinho during his time at Chelsea, has been handed the number nine shirt at United next season.
