Ronaldo Makes World Cup History as Portugal Thrash Uzbekistan 5-0

Cristiano Ronaldo set a new World Cup record after scoring twice in Portugal’s emphatic 5-0 victory over Uzbekistan in their Group K clash on Tuesday.
The 41-year-old became the first player in football history to score in six different FIFA World Cups, adding another remarkable achievement to his legendary career.
Portugal needed a strong response after being held to a disappointing draw by DR Congo in their opening match, and they delivered in style against the World Cup debutants.
Ronaldo opened the scoring early in the game with a close-range finish before Nuno Mendes doubled Portugal’s lead through a well-worked free-kick routine.

The veteran striker struck again before half-time to put Portugal firmly in control at 3-0.
Ronaldo pushed hard for a hat-trick after the break and came close on several occasions, but Uzbekistan goalkeeper Abduvohid Nematov was unfortunate to score an own goal, making it 4-0 for Portugal.
Substitute Rafael Leão then completed the rout with a powerful finish to seal a comfortable 5-0 victory.
The win puts Portugal in a strong position to qualify for the knockout stage. Roberto Martinez’s side had come under pressure after surrendering an early lead in their opening 1-1 draw against DR Congo.
For Uzbekistan, the defeat leaves their hopes of reaching the next round hanging by a thread. The Central Asian nation, appearing at the World Cup for the first time, had already lost 3-1 to Colombia in their opening game.
Portugal can now secure top spot in Group K if they defeat Colombia in their final group match.
However, the night belonged to Ronaldo, whose historic double ensured he once again wrote his name into the World Cup record books.
