Tolu Arokodare Scores Twice as Ajax Beat Sion 5-3 to Reach Europa Conference League Group Stage
Nigeria international Tolu Arokodare scored twice as Ajax defeated Sion 5-3 in the second leg of their UEFA Europa Conference League playoff tie on Thursday night.
The Dutch giants advanced to the group stage with a 9-5 aggregate victory after winning the first leg.
Arokodare was handed his first competitive start for Ajax and made a strong impact, scoring his side’s third goal in first-half stoppage time.
The striker connected with a cross from Abdellah Ouazane before calmly finishing to put Ajax in control.
Arokodare struck again six minutes after the restart, with Ouazane once more providing the assist.
The 24-year-old forward had also played a key role in the first leg, scoring one goal and providing an assist.
His impressive start to life in Amsterdam has now taken his tally to four goals and two assists in five appearances across all competitions since joining Ajax on loan from Wolverhampton Wanderers this summer.
Arokodare’s latest performance further strengthens his case for a regular starting role as Ajax continue their European campaign.
