Rufai backs Nigeria to progress from 2023 AFCON group stage
1994 Africa Cup of Nations winner, Peter Rufai is backing Nigeria Super Eagles to progress from the group stage of the 2023 AFCON.
The Eagles have been drawn against, tournament hosts, Ivory Coast, Equatorial Guinea and Guinea Bissau In Group A for the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations tournament scheduled to begin in January 2024.
Rufai told Complete Sports; ” It’s a good group for the Super Eagles and I think we have a big chance of qualifying to the next round
“We know football is not what is used to be anymore. It has gone really dynamic and notwithstanding, if it’s gone dynamic, Nigeria is capable of coping with it.
“All the same, I think Nigeria will make a headway in that group.”
In their first match since the AFCON draws, Nigeria played a 2-2 draw vs the Green Falcons of Saudi Arabia at the Estadio Municipal de Portimao, Portugal on Friday, October 13.
Jose Peseiro’s men will face the Mambas of Mozambique in another Friendly match on Monday, October 16, 2023.
Ivory Coast will host the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations tournament in January/February 2024 after it was moved from mid-2023 over weather concerns.
