Rwanda vs Nigeria: Amavubi Suffer Blow as Two Players Leave Camp After Father’s Death

The Rwanda national football team have been hit by sad news ahead of their 2026 World Cup Qualifier against Nigeria. Two players, Fitina Omborenga and his younger brother Yunusu Nshimiyimana, have left the team’s camp following the death of their father on Monday.

Both players have been excused to mourn with their family. Their availability for Friday’s important match against Nigeria is now in doubt.

Omborenga played a key role when Rwanda defeated Nigeria in their last meeting during the AFCON Qualifiers. It is not yet clear if he will return in time to face the Super Eagles at the Stade Amahoro in Kigali.

Rwanda will host three-time African champions Nigeria on Friday in what is seen as a crucial game for both teams. The two sides are already in Kigali, preparing for the match.

Rwanda’s head coach Adel Amrouche named his 23-man squad last Saturday, while Nigeria’s new coach Eric Chelle released his team list last week.

Rwanda currently have seven points in the World Cup Qualifiers, while Nigeria have managed just three points from their first four games. Despite being favourites on paper, Nigeria will be wary after losing to Rwanda in Uyo the last time they met.

Both teams will be hoping for a good result as they continue their race for a place at the 2026 World Cup.
