Fury admits to cocaine use and opens up on depression battle

Tyson Fury has admitted to taking cocaine and opened up on his battle with depression, claiming he has been pushed “to the brink of death”.

Reports surfaced that Fury had tested positive for cocaine shortly before his world heavyweight title rematch against Wladimir Klitschko had been postponed for the second time.

Fury confessed to taking the drug, but insists that it is of no one’s business as it is not performance enhancing.

Speaking to Rolling Stone magazine, he said: “Listen, I’ve done a lot of things in my life. I’ve done lots of cocaine. Lots of it. Why shouldn’t I take cocaine?

“It’s my life isn’t it? I can do what I want. Yeah, I have done cocaine. Plenty of people have done cocaine as well. What the f*** has that got to do with anything? That ain’t a performance-enhancing drug.

“Am I not allowed to have a life now as well? Do they want to take my personal life off me too?

“I’ve not been in a gym for months. I’ve not been training. I’ve been going through depression.”

The 28-year-old’s uncle and trainer Peter Fury alluded to the fact the WBA and WBO heavyweight champion had been contending with mental health issues, which led to the cancellation of his bout with Klitschko.

Ricky Hatton also raised concerns about his fellow Mancunian’s wellbeing after Fury claimed on social media on Monday that he had retired from boxing, only to backtrack a few hours later.

And Fury says he is at breaking point due to his battle against depression.

“Listen I’ve been pushed to the brink. I can’t take no more. I’m in a hospital at the moment. I’m seeing psychiatrists. Everything,” he added.

“They say I’ve got a version of bipolar. I’m a manic depressive. All from what they’ve done to me. All this s*** through boxing, through taking titles, through writing me off. I beat the best man but I’m still s***.”

“I just don’t want to live anymore, if you know what I’m saying,” he added. “I’ve had total enough of it.

“They’ve forced me to the breaking edge. Never mind cocaine. I just didn’t care. I don’t want to live anymore. So cocaine is a little minor thing compared to not wanting to live anymore.

“I don’t see a way out, I don’t even see a way of living for me, I don’t want to live anymore. It has brought me to the brink of, of death, that’s where I’m at the moment.

“To be honest, I’ve not been in the gym for months. I’ve been AWOL. I’ve been out drinking, anything to get my mind off what’s been going on to me.

“I’m as fat as a pig. I’m 285 pounds, 290 pounds. It is what it is. I’ve been out. I’ve been an emotional wreck.”

Fury has previously denied allegations he is being investigated for doping, while he has courted controversy in the past for remarks made about homosexuals, women and Jewish people.
