Sabalenka beats Barty to win Mutua Madrid Open for her 1st clay title

Aryna Sabalenka has claimed her first-ever title on Clay after beating world number one Ashleigh Barty 6-0 3-6 6-4 on Saturday in Madrid.

The 23-year-old from Belarus was too good for her Australian counterpart Ashleigh Barty and she raced to a 6-0 win in the first set.

Ashleigh Barty, who had won 16 consecutive matches on red clay, rallied in the second set to get herself back on level terms with a 3-6 win.

But Aryna Sabalenka who has won three titles since October last year won the deciding set 6-4 to claim the 2021 Mutua Madrid Open title for her fourth title within 7 months.

Aryna Sabalenka who will rise to No.4 in the WTA rankings on Monday has now won a total of 10 career titles.
