Sabalenka is One Win away from Three Straight US Open Titles
Aryna Sabalenka is back in the US Open final after defeating Jessica Pegula 7-5, 6-2 in the semifinals at Arthur Ashe Stadium.
The two-time defending champion produced another dominant performance, overcoming a tight opening set before pulling away in the second. Sabalenka hit 29 winners and never dropped a serve as she extended her US Open winning streak to 19 matches.
The victory sends Sabalenka into her fourth consecutive US Open final. She is now one win away from becoming the first woman since Serena Williams to win three straight titles in New York.
After the match, Sabalenka was full of appreciation for the Arthur Ashe Stadium crowd despite knowing many fans were backing Pegula.
“No complaints. I’m super happy I was able to pull out such tennis. The last match I played against Jessica it was almost impossible for me to get the win. I’m super happy I was able to play such tennis in front of you all. Thank you for the atmosphere. You guys are the best. Your respect to me is priceless. I know you wanted her to win, it’s obvious. Sabalenka will now face new world No. 1 Elena Rybakina in the final. Rybakina defeated Coco Gauff earlier in the day to reach her first US Open final.
